- Daimler™
-
an expensive make of car formerly produced in ↑Coventry, England. The company was formed in 1896 and was named after the German ↑designer of the original engine, Gottfried Daimler. Daimlers are typically associated with upper-class people in Britain, and with the British royal family, who have owned several. In 1960 the company was sold to Jaguar, which continued to use the name on some of its more expensive cars. A separate German company, Daimler-Benz, joined with ↑Chrysler in 1998 to form DaimlerChrysler.
